Changing passwords for a whole class

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes section.
3. Click on the Students button.
4. Click on the Set passwords button.
5. Change the password and click on the Update button.

The passwords for the whole class have been changed.

Changing passwords for individual students

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes section.
3. Click on the Students button.
4. Click on the Edit button for the student you wish to change.
5. Change the password and click on the Update button.

If the children in your classes remain the same from year to year, then follow the steps outlined in the Renaming the class section.

If your school shuffles the classes when moving children up a year and into new classes, then follow the instructions in the Moving students between classes section.

If you need to delete a class you can follow the instructions in the Removing data section.

Please refer to the Choosing courses for your classes guide for detailed instructions on choosing the most appropriate course for each of your classes, based on their coding experience.

Renaming the class

To update your class to the next year. e.g. From Year 3, to Year 4. You simply have to rename the class name, rename the year group, and update the course.

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes section.
3. Click on the “Edit” button for the class you want to change.
4. Change the Name field (e.g. from Budgies to Owls).
5. Change the Group field (e.g. from Year 4 to Year 5).
6. Change the Course (remember to read the course selection guide to know which course to use for your class!)
7. Click the Update button.
8. Repeat for all the classes.

Moving students between classes

If you need to move your students between classes, then do the following:

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes section.
3. Click on the “Students” button.
4. Click on the “Edit” button for the child you wish to move class.
5. Change the class using the dropdown menu.

Note: If you have many classes to update and don’t want to do it manually, then please get it in touch at hello@rodocodo.com and we’ll help you automate the process.

All logins for staff and children will remain what they were before, and it will retain their progress on their previous course(s).

Removing data

If you no longer require a class (e.g. the Year 6 class that have just left), then you can delete that class.

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes section.
3. Click the “Delete” button for the class you wish to remove. Be careful to ensure you are deleting the correct class as it is not reversible!

We have made some improvements to the way courses are assigned to each year group, following feedback from teachers. It’s a simple way of making sure every class gets assigned a course to suit their abilities, so that they can quickly progress.

For KS1, children can be assigned the course that corresponds for their year ie Reception should be assigned the Reception course, Year 1 the Year 1 course, and Year 2 the Year 2 course.

For KS2 children, the new Year 3 – Year 6 courses will have too high a learning curve for children who haven’t used Rodocodo before and so please use the guide below.

If your school is already using Rodocodo, then skip to the choosing courses for existing schools section below.

Choosing courses for new schools

If your school is new to Rodocodo and haven’t used it before, we recommend you set the courses as follows for your year groups:

Note: Completing the lessons as suggested in the table above will mean that next year they’ll be at the appropriate level for their year group and you can switch to choosing the course based on year group. For example, if this year’s Year 3 class complete the Key Stage 2 course lessons 1 – 7 then they’ll be ready for the Year 4 course next year.

Choosing courses for existing schools

We’ve added seven new courses to Rodocodo, and although they are named Reception – Year 6 please don’t assign the courses for classes based on the year group alone.

We suggest you choose the new course based on the class’ progress rather than year group. This is to avoid an unnecessarily steep learning curve if they haven’t completed the requisite work for that course.

So reading the first row as an example: if your class has completed lessons 1 – 8 of the Original KS1 & KS2 course, and achieved mostly medium/high mastery on all the lessons then they’re ready to tackle the Year 4 course.

To view a class’ progress to determine which course to put them on follow these steps:

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes section.
3. Click on the “Progress” button.
4. You can now view the progress of your whole class.

You are can see how many lessons each child in the class has completed.

How to set the course

Once you’ve decided on the course for each class you just need to update the course.

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes section.
3. Click on the “Edit” button for the class you want to change.
4. Choose the Course.
5. Click the Update button.

Now when any student in that class logs in they’ll see the correct lessons.

Changing course for a class

Following these steps changes the current course for the whole class. Please note that you can always see the class’ progress on other courses by going to the Progress page and using the dropdown menu to change the course.

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes page.
3. Click on the “Edit” button for the class you want to change.
4. Change the course using the dropdown menu.
5. Click on the “Update” button.

Changing course for an individual student

If you have a student who is finding the current course too easy, or too difficult you have the option to put them on a different course to the rest of their class.

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes page.
3. Click on the “Progress” button for the class your student is in.
4. Click on the name of the pupil.
5. Click on the course dropdown and change it to the course you want.
6. Click the “View” button. The screen should refresh.
7. Click on the “Assign Course” button.

Your student has now changed course. Please note that now when you go to the Progress table for their class you’ll need to use the dropdown to see this student’s progress, as the Progress page will always default to the class’ course.

Creating your class

1. Log in at https://test.rodocodo.com/admin
2. Go to the Classes page.
3. Click on the “New Class” button.
4. Enter your class name, year group, and choose the course.
5. Click on the “Add” button.

You will be returned to the Classes page, and you now need to add your students.

Adding a few students

If you just need to add a few students follow these instructions but if you’ve got quite a few and don’t want to do too much typing then follow the instructions below for adding your class’ students.

1. Go to the Classes page.
2. Click on the “New Student” button.
3. Fill out the form.
4. Press the “Add” button.

Repeat steps 2 – 4 until you have added all the students.

Your pupils can now login at https://game.rodocodo.com and start using the system.

Adding your class’ students

If you’re adding your whole class (e.g. 30 pupils) then it is much quicker to use a CSV file.

Preparing the CSV file

Your CSV file needs to be in the following format:

username,password,forename,surname,gender

So for example if you have have two pupils (Scott Summers and Jean Grey) the data might look like this:

Exported as a CSV file it would look like this:

username,password,forename,surname,gender
jeang,passwd2,Jean,Grey,F
scotts,passwd1,Scott,Summers,M

Importing the CSV file

1. Click on “Import Students”.
2. Click on the button below Upload file and select your CSV file to upload.
3. Click on the “Create student accounts” button. Note: Only click once!
4. Wait.

If there are errors in the file, the page will display an error message stating which line(s) of the CSV has the problem. Please fix the errors and save your changes then go back to Step 2 to upload your updated file. If you’re unable to solve the issue then please get in touch with us at hello@rodocodo.com, and we’ll be happy to help.

If there are no errors the data will import and your class will be created.

By default, the system chooses the “Original (KS1/KS2)” course, but you should change this. The instructions for this can be found here.

5. Click on the “Students” button to view the class username and passwords.

Your pupils can now login at https://game.rodocodo.com and start using the system.
